About Me
After an interesting and engaging career in software development, I thought it was time to do something with more social added value.
I am a volunteer at De Fietsambassade Gent, where I volunteer as a bike taxi driver for people with reduced mobility and provide bike lessons for adults.
In my free time I like biking and running, following local and international news and reading about science, cosmology and philosophy.
Professional Career
Section titled “Professional Career”My career in a nutshell: from designing integrated circuits to developing cloud software applications.
After finishing my studies of Industrial Engineer Electronics and a short intermezzo as integrated circuit designer, I quickly found out that software development was my real piece of cake.
I developed a wide range of applications on a wide range of quickly evolving technology, going from communications and monitoring software on VAX/VMS in Fortran (and on Windows in C/C++) to full-layered cloud applications on Microsoft Azure/.NET in C# for remotely monitoring and managing digital cinema and immersive projectors with IoT and big data aspects.
Although application domains and technologies change over time, the objectives remain the same: developing qualitative, extensible, and maintainable software that brings added value to its end users.
To help me obtaining these goals, I kept exploring alternative ways of software development and design as well as new software concepts and technologies. Not as a goal on itself, but for the purpose of making better software.
My special interest went out to domain-driven design, agile development, CI/CD, Azure and .NET.
